AI Chronicles 📰

Meet Fedha: Kuwait’s first AI News Presenter 👩🏽‍💼

Source: BBC News

“I’m Fedha, the first presenter in Kuwait who works with artificial intelligence at Kuwait News. What kind of news do you prefer? Let’s hear your opinions,” are the first words uttered in Arabic by this AI generated news presenter. The news presenter appeared on the twitter account of Kuwait news, a website affiliated with Kuwait Times, and has captivated the audience with her debut.

The name “Fedha” is a popular Kuwaiti term for silver, reflecting the metallic nature often associated with robots. This unique blend of tradition and technology represents the news outlet’s innovative approach.

Fedha is still a work-in-progress and aims to present news bulletins in an authentic Kuwaiti accent on the news outlet’s Twitter account. This could potentially revolutionize the way news is presented and consumed.

With AI adoption rapidly increasing, could traditional news presenter roles be at risk?

China drafts new law for AI security assessments 🏛️

China has introduced strict regulations requiring security assessments for new AI products before release, reflecting its core socialist values. China’s draft law, “Administrative Measures for Generative Artificial Intelligence Services” aims to standardize AI applications, prohibiting - content subverting state power, promoting terrorism or disrupting economic and social order.

These new regulations are one of the strictest measures for Generative AI so far and companies will need to ensure that their data sources:

  • Are well within prescribed guidelines

  • Are accurate and unbiased

  • Are not infringing on IP rights of others

Companies failing these assessments could face penalties, including fines and restrictions on their operations.

This regulatory crackdown comes just as tech giants like Alibaba and Baidu are investing heavily in AI services with Alibaba launching Tongyi Qianwen and Baidu unveiling its AI bot Ernie.
